On Stage September 2005
The Benevolent Women's Craft Society by Mark Steven Jensen
"The central characters are four rural women trying to meet the entry deadline for their small town's "Pioneer Days" celebration. Lillian is cantankerous, Fiona is weird, Loraine tries her hand at matchmaking, and Emily is the energetic and very pregnant young wife of a Lutheran minister. Jason is a gay professor from California who says he's studying the women for his gender studies course.
The characters are just so charming and crazy. They have a rural mentality and morality, and a down home American feeling that's universal, but at the same time a little wacky because of their culture. Into this comes a city boy who brings a lot of surprises to them that they have never been exposed to."
